Mascara Review: Clinique High Impact Lash Elevating Mascara

Alright folksickles...

Today I will be reviewing the Clinique High Impact Lash Elevating Mascara

Sans Mascara:

With Mascara:

Availability: This is available at sephora.com, macys.com, ulta.com, and bloomingdales.com as well as their respective physical store/ locations along with clinique.com. The retail pricing is $21.
Would I buy this?:  No.
Notes: This only comes in " black - I think it's just as inky black as most other mascaras.
Let's go over what the mascara's supposed to do and what it actually does. It's marketed as "uplifting" - I think that means it helps curl the lash; volumizing formulation.
Alright so... for me, I feel like this does what it claims in that it really boosts the lash and gives a lot of length and volume. It also layers on very well over itself. That said, I find the mascara somewhat clumpy for my personal taste - I am that OCD person that wants each lash as defined as humanely possible - no level of clumpiness is acceptable to me... Anyhow... the main reason I won't go out and buy it is because of the degree of pain this is to remove... during the day I find that it flakes just ever-so-slightly... nothing that's a giant turnoff but every time I go to remove it I'm left with raccoon eyes no matter how thorough I am with my makeup removal process. It makes me sad as I really don't want to be rough with my under-eye area or constantly swipe at it. :/

Clinique Pretty Easy Eyelining Pen Review

Today's eyeliner review is going to be on Clinique Pretty Easy Eyelining Pen

Availability: This is available at sephora.com, macys.com, ulta.com, and bloomingdales.com as well as their respective physical store/ locations along with clinique.com. The retail pricing is $23.
Would I buy this? No.
NotesI'd describe the color of this as being a deep black with a leather-like finish - it is not waterproof, just putting it out there but does wear really nicely. I like that this has a brush tip, rather than felt. Although I feel fairly comfortable with both, I feel that brush tips are more flexible and thus hug my lash-line better and allow me to be more precise with creating cat-eyes, which you folks know I love doing.  In terms of actual wear, I find that it stays on around 8-10 hours unless my eyes are super watery.

Please let me know if you have any comments or questions.

Eyeliner Review: Incendio Beauty Basilisk Eyeliner Potion

Today's eyeliner review is going to be on Incendio Beauty Eyeliner Potion in Basilisk

On the upper lash-line, waterline, and as a base.

Availability: Unfortunately Incendio Beauty is no longer in business.
Would I buy this? Unsure.
NotesThis shade is described simply as green. Personally I'd say this is a matte, cool-toned forest/hunter green. This is super easy to work with, it glides onto the lid easily and smoothly. In terms of wear I had this on for a bit over 8 hours and it looked pretty freshly applied on the upper lash-line and a bit faded but still on the waterline. Thumbs up.

Please let me know if you have any comments or questions.

Moisturizer Review: m-61 Hydraboost Moisturizer SPF 30

Today's review will be for the m-61 Hydraboost Moisturizer SPF 30

Availability: This is exclusive to bluemercury.com as well as their respective physical store. The retail pricing is $78 for 1.7 fl oz (50 mL)

Would I buy this? I want to say yes, but my wallet wants to say no!

What it is formulated to do:
According to bluemercury.com
WHAT IT IS
This firming and hydrating moisturizer provides SPF30 protection, ideal for daily use under makeup or alone with treatment benefits.
BENEFITS
Packed with peptides, vitamin B5, vitamin E, hyaluronic acid, tamarind, avocado oil and centella asiatica, this multi-tasking moisturizer provides daily hydration, fights fine lines and wrinkles, and protects against sun exposure.

Does it contain any special/beneficial ingredients?

Natural tamarind improves elasticity and hydrates while aloe and centella asiatica soothe the skin.
Antioxidants white mulberry and papaya help brighten and increase the skin's radiance.
Avobenzone 3%, Homosalate 8%, Octisalate 5%, Octocrylene 6% (as the sunscreen ingredients)
It also contains:
Avocado Oil: Contains antioxidant properties; is hydrating and nourishing to the skin.
Squalane: Contains multiple benefits among which include: providing moisture, is non-irritating to individuals with sensitive skin conditions like eczema, psoriasis, and other types of dermatitis, and, is in fact, soothing for those suffering from such conditions. It also is helpful in controlling excess oil production (thus it's balancing) and is antibacterial.

What is the texture like?
This feels like a nourishing cream.

Is it scented?
This has a very soft, clean, somewhat white floral scent.

My overall experience/comments on the product:
I've been using this for almost a week now and I LOVE it! I find that a lot of sunscreen moisturizers can feel heavy or sticky and don't moisturize so much as sit on top of the skin and make me miserable. Many of them even have an unsavory white cast. Not this! It feels really lightweight for an SPF product and doesn't leave me feeling sticky or gross one bit! Plus there is absolutely no white cast. I'm unsure if this causes flashback with makeup photography as I haven't used it in flash photography situations but I'm really enjoying it outside of that. Again, I find it to be a pricey item for what it is but I am impressed with the quality and how it makes my skin feel.

Please let me know if you have any questions or comments.

According to bluemercury.com

This radiance-boosting moisturizer targets dullness and revitalizes stressed skin with 10% concentrated, stabilized vitamin C for a more youthful-looking complexion.

This feels like a really light, hydrating cream gel.

Is it scented?
This has a very soft, citrusy, Vitamin C scent.

My overall experience/comments on the product:
I've been using this for almost a week now and I LOVE it! It really brightens my skin and provides a beautiful glow - people have been saying my skin looks glow-y and supple. My skin also feels really soft and smooth after using this. That said, I just think $78 is a lot to be asking for a Vitamin C cream given there are products on the market at a lower price point. Granted, I can't speak to the Vitamin C in other products being stabilized which is certainly an issue - a lot of Vitamin C products tend to break down when exposed to sunlight or heat. :/ I suppose I'll have to keep using it to see how I feel but I do like it a lot.

Please let me know if you have any questions or comments.

Mask Review: Supermood Youth Glo Luxury Peel

'Ello folksickles. Today's review will be for the Supermood Youth Glo Luxury Peel with Natural AHA Acids and Fruit Extracts

Availability: This is available at macys.com and anthropologie.com as well as their respective physical store/ locations along with supermood.fi. The retail pricing is $45 for 75 mL (2.5 oz.).

Would I buy this?: Probably not

What is this product designed to address?
According to bluemercury.com this is what the product is and what it does:
WHAT IT IS
This sensational face peel is extremely effective; it peels and renews skin, creating a sensational glow. The Luxury Peel contains lactic acid, plant extracts with fruit acid, buckthorn extract rich in vitamin C, detoxifying cornflower water, and soothing marigold extract. Naturally derived and made in Finland, Supermood products never contain parabens, sulfates, and other ingredients that you don't want on your skin.

BENEFITS
Moth beans contain vitamin A, a natural retinol that creates a beautiful glow on the skin. Recommended to use once a week.

Does it contain any special/beneficial ingredients?
Once again, according to bluemercury.com:
Moth beans (pronounced moot) contain natural retinol (Vitamin A) that helps create a beautiful glow to the skin.
Fruit acids naturally peel the skin to refresh and renew skin's surface.
Spearmint leaf refreshes the surface while marigold flower extract calms and soothes the skin
This also contains:
Sea Buckthorn Fruit Juice: Contains anti-aging, healing, soothing properties. Reduces inflammation and redness.
Cornflower Water: Has soothing and anti-inflammatory properties, helps hydrate the skin.
Apple Fruit Extract: Contains antioxidant properties and acids that exfoliate away excess dead skin.
Grapefruit Fruit Extract: Contains antioxidant and brightening properties.
Calendula: Contains antifungal, anti-inflammatory, and antibacterial properties; helps calm and soothe the skin
Marigold Flower Extract: Helps reduce swelling and inflammation.

What is the texture like?
This feels like a somewhat gel-like mask that feels cooling and soothing when applied.

Is it scented?
This scent here is best described as earthy, acerbic, tannic... kind of acid-y and earthy at the same time, there's also a hint of something herbal. It smells rather spa-like.

My overall experience/comments on the product:
I will say that this mask is extremely deceptive. When you apply it, it feels really nice, cool, and soothing and you get to thinking "these directions are stupid... leave on for 1 minute?!? nah lemme leave it on for 20" LMFAO OMG NO DON'T DO IT!!!!! So the first time I ever used it I kept it on for all of two minutes before washing it off and was that TOO LONG!!! My skin looked like I went on some insane scratching bonanza - red, inflamed, streaky... etc. Now, the packaging does warn you that some redness is to be expected and I have not once used this mask and experienced no redness. It makes my skin feel re-textured, smooth, and pretty much baby's butt soft/smooth - just incredible! That said, I find that, as I've said my skin always turns red and I can feel that it's fairly inflamed. As much as I like the way this makes my skin feel and the glow it provides, the slew of great ingredients used in the product I just feel like my skin is too sensitive to use this on a regular basis.

Please let me know if you have any questions or comments.

Mask Review: CVS Chocolate and Coffee Self-Heating Clay Facial Mask

'Ello folksickles. Today's review will be for the CVS Chocolate and Coffee Self-Heating Clay Facial Mask

Availability: This has been discontinued.

Would I buy this again?: No.

What is this product designed to address?
According to cvs.com this is what the product is and what it does:
Is it getting warm in here? This self-heating Chocolate and Coffee Clay Mask is the perfect way to unwind after a long day. It unclogs pores and hydrates skin so you'll be even better than new in no time at all. The decadent scent of chocolate and coffee with just a hint of strawberry will leave you feeling energized, refreshed and maybe even a little sweet.

Does it contain any special/beneficial ingredients?
Glycerin - A humectant which attracts moisture from the air to your skin.
Kaolin Clay - helps to detoxify the skin and draw out excess oil.
Cacao Seed Extract and Cocoa Extract- Promotes blood flow and cellular healing due to its antioxidant and Vitamin C content.
Coffee Extract-  Contains caffeine which helps brighten skin by reducing redness and boosts circulation.
Strawberry Fruit Extract - Contains Vitamin C which helps to brighten the skin and increase collagen production.

What is the texture like?
This has a texture reminiscent of a thick moisturizer; it's thick, rich, and buttery.

Is it scented?
I would describe the scent as being sweet and vaguely reminiscent of cocoa... I am very disappointed in the scent if I'm going to be honest because I was hoping this mask would smell like mocha and it doesn't even come close!

My overall experience/comments on the product:
I find it doesn't do much in terms of clearing up my skin, which, honestly, is what I was hoping for. I have an issue where the pores around my nasolabial (I'm referring specifically to my nose and nearby region of the cheeks) region are congested and appear large/not-smooth due to being clogged with comedones and sebum but because my skin is dry overall I don't want to use any intense mud masks. I was hoping that because this is designed to hydrate and decongest that it would work. I will say that, compared to some, my issue isn't all that bad but it personally bothers me and I'd love to find a product that actually removes the congestion.

Please let me know if you have any questions or comments.

Disclaimer: I purchased this myself.

Glutamic Acid: Stabilizes the pH and moisture balance of the skin

What is the texture like?
This feels pretty watery, hydrating and is refreshing when applied.

Is this scented?
This has a cucumber-y aloe-like scent to it with something astringent-like which I assume is the witch hazel.

What has my experience with the product been like?
This is meant to be used once a day and I would highly suggest using it at nighttime as alpha-hydroxy acids like glycolic tend to increase photo-sensitivity (read: sun damage) and it's highly important that, even if you use this at night, that you use sunscreen in conjunction with it. I've heard so much hype about this product as well as some acne horror stories - people are saying this broke them out really terribly and the scarring took a long time to go away. As of writing this I've only used it twice and will update re: any acne if things change. But so far I'm liking it - it instantly gave me a lovely glow and made my skin feel baby's butt smooth - I saw a lot of dead skin come off on my cotton pad :x - plus I feel like the mask I used afterwards really did a much better job than it usually does at deep-cleaning... my skin even felt a tad bit dry afterwards but nothing a bit of moisturizer couldn't fix. I'm looking forward to seeing how this continues to work on my skin. The mornings after using this my skin felt super soft and smooth! All that aside, I really dislike the way this smells... it's quite pungent and while it dissipates soon after I'm done applying the product to my face only time will tell how tolerant I am of the scent.

Please let me know if you have any questions or comments.

-Aloe Vera, Chamomile, Sage, Papaya & Cucumber Extract: Combine to rejuvenate, hydrate, clarify, and promote a radiant appearance.

What is the texture like?
This feels pretty watery, hydrating and is refreshing when applied.

Is this scented?
It smells a bit herbal when freshly applied but the scent dissipates quickly.

What has my experience with the product been like?
Again I'm coming at you with a first impression and if I'm going to be completely honest - I am unsure of how to feel about this. Unless a toner really hydrates or dries me out or has some sort of remarkable scent it's hard for me to evaluate it - especially one that sprays on as there's not much of a set "texture" outside of wetness. :/ I will say the sprayer on this isn't my favorite because it tends to spray out a lot in an uneven fashion - I'm wondering if the full-sized one does the same or not. Overall all I do like it enough to keep using it and we'll just see what happens with continued use. I'm sorry I'm unable to provide y'all with a more thorough review.

Please let me know if you have any questions or comments.

Moisturizer Review: Darphin Hydraskin Light All-Day Hydrating Cream Gel

Today's review will be for the Darphin Hydraskin Light All-Day Hydrating Cream Gel

Availability: This is available at nordstrom.com as well as its respective physical store/ locations along with darphin.com. The retail pricing is $66 for 1.7 fl oz (50 mL) or $100 for 100 mL.

Would I buy this? Probably not

What it is formulated to do:
According to darphin.com:
Ideal for normal to combination skin, light gel cream features HYDRA-STRUCTURE™ Technology, a high-performance hydrating complex of powerful ingredients from Nature (Salicornia Herbacea, Butterfly Lavender) to help wake up skin's moisture mechanisms and defend skin's critical moisture reservoir.

Does it contain any special/beneficial ingredients?
Glycerin: A humectant that attracts and retains moisture to/in the skin.
Cucumber Fruit Extract: Has an astringent effect, soothes, reduces puffiness, moisturizes, and brightens the skin.
Kiwi Fruit Extract: Has brightening and collagen-boosting properties (thanks to its Vitamin C content) and antioxidant properties (thanks to Vitamin E).
Lavender Extract: Helps in balancing skin's moisture level and soothes the skin.

What is the texture like?
This feels like a really light, watery gel.

Is it scented?
This has a very soft, fresh powdery scent - what I would associate as a clean showered kind of scent.

My overall experience/comments on the product:
This is going to be more of a first impressions than a full-on review - which will most likely come to you in the empties post for this as there isn't much in the tube. Anyhow, it's a very lightweight gel cream moisturizer as its name implies. I think it does a great job of providing hydration while leaving my skin comfortable in this summer heat/humidity. That said I think it's pricey for what it is and given the amount of similar, lower-priced items on the market with similar benefit I'd say this is a skip.

Please let me know if you have any questions or comments.

Moisturizer Review: Indie Lee Squalane Facial Oil

Today's review will be for the Indie Lee Squalane Facial Oil

Availability: This is available at nordstrom.com, anthropologie.com, birchbox.com, bluemercury.com, sephora.com, and ulta.com as well as their respective physical store/ locations along with indielee.com and dermstore.com. The retail pricing is $36 for 1 fl oz (30 mL).

Would I buy this? I think I would.

What it is formulated to do:
According to indielee.com:
Improve the appearance of texture and tone, skin elasticity and cell turnover with this readily absorbed, 100% pure, Olive derived Squalane. Non-pore clogging, this oil leaves the complexion soft, nourished and never greasy.
Solutions For:
Dry dehydrated skin
Uneven texture and tone
Balances excess oil production
Excellent for face, hands, neck and décolleté
Ideal for all skin types

Does it contain any special/beneficial ingredients?
This is 100% Squalane: Contains multiple benefits among which include: providing moisture, is non-irritating to individuals with sensitive skin conditions like eczema, psoriasis, and other types of dermatitis, and, is in fact, soothing for those suffering from such conditions. It also is helpful in controlling excess oil production (thus it's balancing) and is antibacterial.

What is the texture like?
This feels like a really thin, watery oil - in that... it's slightly oily at first but mostly feels watery.

Is it scented?
Upon smelling the applicator this smells kind of rubbery which is odd because I really don't get that when I apply it on my face. :/

My overall experience/comments on the product:
Alright y'all so I've been using this for a bit under a week and already I can tell a gigantic improvement with my skin's tone and texture. This is weightless and can be used as either a serum mixed in with your moisturizer or on its own (which is how I'm currently using it) - in fact my current concoction is mixing this in with the Clinique Moisture Surge Hydrating Supercharged Concentrate - and let me tell you it's a nearly weightless oil - it absorbs into my skin near instantly. I notice that it really reduces the amount of redness I have, hydrates, and soothes any irritation on my skin and OMFG my skin's texture feels really close to baby's butt smoothness - it's so soft, smooth, and supple. I really love this stuff so far and am excited to see what continued use will bring!

Please let me know if you have any questions or comments.
